LA Children's update

Friday we went to LA Children's Hospital and met with a fetal cardiologist, Dr. Mark Sklansky. He was great. Very real, told us what he saw, what that meant, etc. The first words out of his mouth were.... drum roll..... "This heart looks GREAT." Um. really? Thank you Jesus!

He mentioned a few little things that may be wrong, all minor, basically no heart is the same, but that doesn't mean they don't function correctly. Joshua would not cooperate and get into an ideal position for viewing, but he was still comfortable with what he confirmed via echo/ultrasound. The worst "possible scenario" being an "hourglass" looking vessel that is currently being held open by another vessel that will naturally close after birth. It is hard to detect in utero. It is best detected after birth with an EKG. If he had it, he would need IV drugs until he had surgery to open the "hourglass". Surgery has a very good success rate. Dr. didn't really didn't expand b/c he wasn't convinced that was even an issue.

He also said there was fluid around the brain (some is normal). He said he is not a brain guy and really didn't know what was "acceptable" and what was not. He tried to get another doctor to come check it out, but he wasn't available. He said that if the dr. we had been to several times up here had never noticed anything out of the ordinary, there probably wasn't anything. Fluid isn't something that just pops up and since we had just had an ultrasound 10 days earlier with nothing detected, it would be fine. Needless to say, he is having me see the guy here tomorrow, just to be sure. THEN, we go BACK to LA in 10 wks just to confirm that there is nothing to worry about.

At one point the LA dr. was on his cell with our dr. up here talking about our "case" with us in the room (he wanted a few ?'s answered before we left to come back to Atascadero) and the gist of the conversation was that they couldn't figure out why the fluid was there in the 1st place and thought it "interesting" how great the heart looked. We know what's up. Our God is bigger then their science. Duh.
